Dear Friends of Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory,

In A Man for all Seasons by Robert Bolt, Thomas More said to Richard Rich, “Why not be a teacher? You’d be a fine teacher. Perhaps even a great one.” Rich scoffs, “And if I was, who would know it?”  More responds, “You, your pupils, your friends, God. Not a bad public, that…. Oh, and a quiet life.”

While our 11 teachers are savvy enough not to expect much quiet once 75 students fill OLV’s halls, these educators are ever conscious of their audience as they fulfill such an important vocation.  As we work hard to hire and develop great teachers, we pray through the intercession of Our Lady of Victory that she, along with our gracious God (the only “public” that ultimately matter), will observe from Heaven and ultimately say “Well done, good and faithful servants!” (Matthew 25:23).

We truly believe OLV’s strength is its community, including teachers who help foster a haven where our students may learn, encounter Christ, and discover Our Lady’s story as well as their place in it. Our prayer is that our students will — with Mary at the helm — battle against the current destructive culture and become leaders in the cultura vitae, the culture of life.

Formation Fridays are another special feature of student life at OLV. In support of the cause for canonization of Julia Greeley, servant of God, OLV students are going on pilgrimage on September 15. They will attend Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where Julia was baptized and attended daily Mass. The pilgrimage will then proceed and end at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with adoration and veneration of Julia’s tomb.

Parents and our wider community, including priests, grandparents, supporters, and donors, are invited to come on pilgrimage as well. Contact the office for more information.  We invite you to learn more about Julia Greeley’s cause for canonization and the Julia Greeley Guild.

The Holy Mass is at the center of the life of our school, with students starting every day with the Eucharist. We are so grateful and proud of our new altar and triptych, lovingly provided by God through artists and donors who generously support our mission (see the July newsletter). How do you keep tuition so low?

Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory tuition is intentionally affordable (currently $8,100) as a hallmark of a Chesterton education. Consistent with our motto, cultura vitae, we are committed to making our Catholic, classical education accessible to families from various walks of life, and even the largest of families. Because the cost to educate a student is upwards of $14,000, our community comes together in a beautiful display of faith to volunteer for the school’s needs and help support our fundraising efforts. It is beautiful to see God provide for all our needs.
