Recently, I finished reading Are We All Cyborgs Now?: Reclaiming Our Humanity from the Machine by Robin Phillips and Joshua Pauling. While neither of the authors is Catholic, the book is a wide-ranging collection of essays interrogating technology—and its role in shaping our habits, capabilities, and desires—from the perspective of the Gospel.
While I commend the book to any parents looking to deepen their understanding of our current cultural-technological moment, I was most interested in what the authors had to say about the necessity of reclaiming human spaces with a human scope and a human speed.
The authors talk about the "subtle catechesis of our machines" that "nudges us towards certain ways of being, thinking, and acting." What would it look like to resist that subtle catechesis and stake our flag firmly in the camp of humanity?
It would, I think, look a lot like Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory: grassroots, scrappy, domestic, sacramental, and fundamentally oriented toward contemplation and wonder and, therefore, also toward joy and gratitude. In a word, it would be more human.
Education done well is a humanizing process. When people think of Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory, I hope that two words, "Catholic" and "human," are not far from their lips.
To Jesus through Mary,
Randy

Attention OLV dads (and sons): Our Lady of Victory is growing, and we could use a hand! We have a few large items that need to be moved and a room that could use a fresh coat of paint.
If you're available to help out sometime next week (specific time and date will be based on volunteer availability), please reach out to Mr. Aust by email at randy.aust@ourladyofvictorydenver.com and let him know when you're free.
Thank you for your support!

Please join us in welcoming John Cooney as our new Director of Mission Advancement!
John begins his role at Our Lady of Victory on Thursday, July 31st. We are filled with gratitude for John's "Yes" to the mission of Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory!
Please see John's biography below to learn more about his background and experience.

Mr. John Cooney, born and raised in Spokane, Washington, attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana upon high school graduation. There, he studied theology, philosophy, and political science and completed Carroll’s great books program, the Honors Scholars Program. After converting to Catholicism in college, Mr. Cooney entered seminary at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver, Colorado on behalf of the Diocese of Helena. Following five years of seminary formation, Mr. Cooney felt the Lord inviting him to step away from formation in order to continue his discernment. Recreationally, Mr. Cooney enjoys marathoning, hiking, writing, and reading—especially the works of St. John Henry Newman and Fyodor Dostoevsky. He is eager to partner with and serve the community of Our Lady of Victory this year.

Please join us in welcoming Emma Barham as our new full-time Office Administrator!
Emma will officially begin her role at Our Lady of Victory on Monday, August 4th. We are truly grateful to the Lord for leading Emma to OLV, and we look forward to the gifts that she will bring to our school.
Please see Emma's biography below to learn more about her background and experience.

Ms. Barham grew up outside of Boulder, Colorado and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with her B.A. in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences and Spanish Literature and Language. She then graduated from the University of Washington with her M.S. in Speech Pathology and practiced speech therapy within the public schools for two years before discerning a vocation to religious life. All of these experiences instilled in her a deep passion for education, authentic Catholic life, and living intentionally within community to encourage one another to live with integrity as the person God created them to be pursuing Him in all things. Ms. Barham looks forward to serving OLV in this position as office administrator and is excited to accompany families and students in their pursuit of becoming fully alive in Christ. In her free time, Ms. Barham enjoys hiking, running, reading literature, playing piano, and singing.
